Working in conjunction with the ReachOut! London Soccer School project, a group of boys hosted a charity adult 5-a-side football tournament in February 2009 to raise funds for ReachOut FC.

8 teams from 6 companies entered, playing a one night event at The Petchey Academy school in Hackney.

Boys who regularly attend the Soccer School u14s group (Y9s) were given the opportunity to get involved through helping to plan and deliver the project. The ReachOut! Soccer School offers young people aged 11 – 14 quality football coaching combined with Numeracy and Literacy support. Volunteers work with young people at weekly sessions to help them learn, both improving academic skills and making them better footballers!

The boys were given a budget to spend and were responsible for researching, purchasing and presenting refreshments and medals/trophies to participants within these constraints.

They also participated in officiating the tournament, hospitality and general organisation. They made a huge impact on the adults participating and many of the teams playing commented on the quality of the event and the impression the young people made through their efforts and conduct.

The event was an outstanding success, raising over £3000 for ReachOut FC. Pokerstars FC emerged as the victors, beating Bloomberg LP in the final after scraping past their own colleagues in the semi finals in a tense penalty shootout.

With the funds raised ReachOut! London was able to help ReachOut FC organise a heavily subsidised football tour to Madrid in Easter 2009 for the boys in the u14s age group.
